Valentine's Date Checklist

Valentine's Date Checklist

Valentine's Day can be made that much more memorable with just a little planning ahead.

You could take a fancy mini trip somewhere, or turn the comfort of home into a retreat that removes you from the hurry of daily routine. You could even make your special someone's favorite meal, serve it on a candle-lit table, and romantically celebrate your history together. Whether you spend the day enjoying your favorite shared activities or stay home and draw your loved one a relaxing bath, you can delight in the holiday and skip the frenzy with the help of this checklist:

  1. Bath salts: Soaking in Epsom salt soothes tired muscles, and the hot water warms chilled bones in February.
  2. Essential oils: Aromatherapy is valued all over the globe; bring the magic into your home.
  3. Flowers: Make a few small arrangements in low vases to place around the house. They'll remain past Valentine's Day and be a sweet reminder of the occasion.
  4. Chocolate: Boring? Never. Set out a chocolate sampler that includes trusted favorites, as well as a few new flavors.
  5. Candles: The warm glow of a flame is always more comforting than overhead lighting. Try tall taper candles at the dinner table for an extra special touch.
  6. A special meal: Think back to your first date and recreate what you had for dinner, or make new memories by choosing something you know they currently love.
  7. Music: Create a playlist of meaningful songs or gift a new album they've been wanting.
  8. A framed photo of you together: Most of our albums are digital these days, so print and frame a photo that means something to you both.
  9. A love letter: Handwrite and seal it in an envelope for them to read and cherish.
  10. Special activity: What do you like to do together? Give the gift of quality time in the form of theater tickets, a golf membership or a wine tasting.

Fancy Flutes for a Galentine's Mimosa Party

Fancy Flutes for a Galentine's Mimosa Party

Galentine's is when you and your friends don't concern yourself with romance, but instead revel in friendship.

Plan a mimosa party and hand out personalized champagne flutes. These classy gifts are almost too easy to make! Your friends will cherish them for years to come.

Things You'll Need:
  • Champagne glasses
  • Gold permanent marker
  • Perfect Penmanship!
Directions:
  1. Make sure the glasses are dry before beginning to draw.
  2. Draw tiny hearts from the rim until about midway down the glass. The look you're trying to achieve is falling confetti, so space out the hearts gradually as you go.
  3. Next, around the base of the glass, use your best calligraphy or cursive to write a friend's name.
  4. Set aside to dry fully-careful not to smudge!
  5. Continue for each friend, until your whole squad has its own set of cheerfully decorated glassware.

You can wrap each glass, or set up a mimosa bar for the party, flutes on display, and let guests find their glass as they arrive. Cheers!

DIY Happy Lovebug Valentines for Kids

DIY Happy Lovebug Valentines for Kids

Take Valentine's Day as an opportunity to do a fun craft with your kids. They'll likely be making a valentine for everyone in class, so you want to make it unique, but also keep it from getting too elaborate.

Use common craft cupboard items to turn a flat lollipop into an adorable little critter.

Things You'll Need:
  • Cardstock
  • Flat lollipops
  • Googly eyes
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Glue
  • Glitter
  • Scissors
Directions:
  1. Cut a sheet of cardstock in half. Then fold those into halves to make a sturdy base for your valentines.
  2. Tape a flat lollipop either on the front or inside of the card as a surprise. If you tape it inside, cut a little circle in the cover so the lollipop (which will be the lovebug's smiling face) can peek out.
  3. Decorate the critters. They can all be different-butterflies, dragonflies, bumblebees, caterpillars and made-up creatures. Have fun with it! Kids can draw an outline first if needed.
  4. To make wings, simply draw with glue and shake glitter on top. Curled pipe cleaners make great antennas, too. Let your child's creativity shine while they design cheerful little notes for their school friends.
